Alumni Spotlight: Johnathan
Chancey (07)
Johnathan
Chancey (07) was nominated by his wife, Bethany McGowan (06) Chancey.
Bethany said, “John's desire to do His best for the glory of God is
such an encouragement to me. I started to realize his determination
when my grades went up after we started dating! He wanted to help me
to do my best...even though I just wanted to have fun!”
“John graduated in May of 2007 and we were married less than a month
later. He was ordained a couple weeks after the wedding, and we packed
up all of our stuff and moved to North Carolina. He had been offered a
position there as student minister (youth pastor). This past summer,
John was promoted to assistant pastor and is now overseeing the youth
AND the college/singles group. He doesn't look at more responsibility
as a reason to complain, but as more opportunities to serve the God he
loves.
I am his wife, so I see him on his good and bad days. I can say that
his life still shines for Jesus even when he's going through a rough
time. Last summer, John lost a very close friend. This was the hardest
time we've been through as husband and wife. I was scared of how John
was going to deal with the pain. Satan wanted the victory in his life,
but we serve a God who is greater than Satan. John grew closer to the
Lord during this difficult time. Heaven seems closer to us and we want
to do everything we can to see as many people we can there with us.”
