Alumni Spotlight: Joshua Allred
(‘09)
- Missionary to
Mexico
I was born in Alabama, but moved to Mexico with my family when I was
ten years old. I had the privilege of growing up on the mission field
and working with my parents for several years before attending college
at Trinity.
Due to my parents’ godly influence in my life, I surrendered to serve
the Lord in missions while still living in Mexico, and I viewed college
as a time of preparation for the ministry I knew the Lord was calling
me to. I met my wife, Amanda, my junior year, and we got married two
weeks after I graduated in 2009. We lived in Jacksonville while she
finished her education, then we moved to Sweetwater, TX in May 2010 to
work on staff at Broadway Baptist Church.
Our goal in moving to Texas was to gain some practical ministry
experience while completing a “missionary internship” program. We soon
found out that the Lord had much more to teach us than what we would
learn from an internship program! The Lord allowed us to go through
several personal trials which brought us closer to Him, taught us to
cherish one another, and strengthened our commitment to His work.
Our first child was born in August 2011. His name is Gabriel. We have
been amazed at how the Lord molded our son to fit right in to what He
has called us to do, even in the small details. He has been a blessing
to have with us as we’ve been on deputation. We started raising support
full-time ten days after he was born. He got to travel through seven
different states and visit eight different churches with us before he
turned one month old!
We have been on the road for about twenty months now and we can’t wait
to get to Mexico! We will be working in the ministry alongside my
parents in the city of Merida, which is located in the Yucatan
peninsula. We are honored that God would allow us to be a part of His
work, and we are excited about the many things He has in store for our
lives! We pray that the Lord would use us to make an enormous impact on
our world.
As the Lord has led us on our journey for the last several years, He
has made one thing abundantly clear: ministry has never been about and
will never be about the things we can accomplish for God. Ministry is
about what God will accomplish through us as we submit to His will and
He uses us as vessels unto His glory. Jesus said that He is the vine
and we are the branches (John 15). We are incapable of producing fruit
apart from Him. Any kingdoms we build on our own (even in ministry) are
in vain. Any work done outside of Him is wasted effort. The single most
important element of our ministry is our source of fruit: our
relationship with Jesus Christ. We hope to be branches laden with fruit
that is borne of the source of life!
Joshua, Amanda, and Gabriel are still on the road, raising support to
get to Mexico. To contact Joshua to have them in your church, you can
