Pumpkin pie, crisp
air, and spending time with family and friends are some of my favorite
things about this time of year. As I began thinking about the
holidays and this newsletter, I thought about my friend, Heidi Huff,
who does not get to have quite the same holiday experiences as I
since she and her
husband went to
Togo, West Africa
as missionaries.
Heidi and I became friends in
college when we were suite mates. She is one of the sweetest,
godliest women that I know. I know how much her family means to
her, and I know that this time of year must be especially difficult for
her, as well as others serving God away from the comforts of “home.”
I hope that Heidi’s story will make you a little more thankful this
year. I know it did me.
Happy
Thanksgiving!

Celebrating Holidays on a
Foreign Field: Heidi Pittman (01) Huff
|
Planning our move to Togo, W. Africa was no simple
task, as we were not packing for a two week stay, but to live
there indefinitely! When filling the many boxes with our
belongings, we tried to think of everything, including various
decorations to celebrate our American holidays. Living in a |
place where day-to-day existence for many people is
often a struggle, the holidays are rarely celebrated, and it is
highly unlikely that you will stumble across a Christmas stocking
or Thanksgiving themed tablecloth at the local market, so thinking
ahead was the key.

Church Life Conference October
20-21, 2011
|
If you missed Trinity’s Church Life Conference this
year, you missed insightful information on healthy church life
from speakers Ted Traylor, Ken Whitten, Michael Hyatt, Philip
Nation, and Tom Messer. The speakers were dynamic and |
engaging and church leaders, as well as TBC students, were challenged to encounter God now, be a follower
of Jesus instead of a fan, and develop a life plan, to name a few
of the highlights.
|
|
On Friday of the Conference, the college hosted an
informal Alumni Luncheon for all graduates in attendance. It was
an enjoyable time of fellowship for those on campus. The alumni
heard from college department heads about what |
is taking place now and future plans for the
college. For the future, the college will offer an alumni meeting
any time there is a conference. The next time will be in the
spring, during the Student Life Conference.

Strong’s Concordances to Global Partnership Ministries
|
Trinity Baptist College donated
$3,000 worth of
Strong’s Concordances to Global Partnership Ministries. The
concordances were passed out at Leyte Baptist Seminary in the
Philippines during a Homiletics course. Global Partnership
Ministries is under the direction of Dr. Michael Olson (90, 09).
Michael |
Hanscom (89) also helped teaching the Homiletics course in
the seminary. Below is a thank you and a report sent by Dr. Olson.
We distributed the
concordances to students & pastors at the Leyte Baptist Seminary
on the island of South Leyte when Brother Mike Hanscom (89) and I
taught Homiletics from September 19-23. It was also Missions
emphasis month at the school, so Mike and I challenged the student
