Dear Friends of Trinity
Baptist College
“It’s the Most
Wonderful Time of the Year.” It is not just a Christmas song, but the
feeling of most people during the hustle and bustle of December. People
seem to smile more, give more, and serve more. As Christians, we know
that it is all because of the birth of the Savior. That is not the case
for the majority of the world. According to a 2010 survey conducted by
LifeWay Research, when asked, “Christmas is a time to...” out of 2,110
adults, only 37% responded “Jesus/God.” “Be with family/friends” came
in first with 45%. “A lot of Americans celebrate Christmas like they
participate in yoga: unaware and unconcerned about its religious
roots," says Ed Stetzer, LifeWay president and a Southern Baptist
pastor. As church leaders, volunteers, and parents, it is crucial that
we make sure that the real meaning does not get lost in all the fun
festivities of Christmas.
I found a helpful
article on About.com that I plan on implementing with my family. Mary
Fairchild poses “10 Ways to Keep Christ in Christmas” in her article.
She provides some practical, helpful tips to keep the true meaning of
Christmas in the forefront of our minds.
“10 Ways to
Keep Christ in Christmas”
From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!

Alumni Spotlight: Teacher,
Mentor, and Volunteer Rachel Glisson (07)
|
Rachel was nominated by Trinity Baptist Church’s
Children’s Pastor, Paul Scott (93, 06). Here is Paul’s decription
of why Rachel should be spotlighted:
"Rachel Glisson has taken ministry to "the least of these" to a
whole new level. About 8 years ago, when Rachel came to Trinity
Baptist College, she became |
involverd in the bus ministry of
Trinity Baptist Church. She eventually became a bus captain where
she visited and cared for a large bus route of neighborhood
children. She was also involved as a teacher in children's
ministry - where she continues to volunteer to this day. After
graduating from TBC, Rachel became more involved in a local
apartment complex that has a very dangerous/violent reputation.

Interview with Dr. Ed Gibson
|
Dr. Ed Gibson has graciously
volunteered his time in between his speaking schedule to help out
with the men of Trinity Baptist College. A bystander would never
know that he was not a paid staff member, due to the many hours
that he spends on campus. Dr. Gibson brings a vast wealth of
knowledge and experience in dealing with the complexities of young
adult life. |
Mrs. Stanley: Dr. Gibson, I know that you
are no stranger to Trinity, but this is your first year
volunteering with the guys. How did life on the mission field in
Japan prepare you for volunteering on campus?
Dr. Gibson: I am 70 years old and I have been preaching for
almost 48 years. I have grandchildren the same age as the
students. I view my help as an extension of my missionary
ministry. I have years of experience that I can pass on to the
current generation.

Trinity Baptist College’s fall play was “Once
Upon a Story”. It featured a portrayal of a collection of
nursery rhymes. The humorous depictions showcased the talented
students that God has sent here to TBC. Trinity Baptist College
Professor, Bethany Crawford, led the way for a new tradition at
Trinity. She organized an event called “A Trinity Family
Christmas.” |
All of the
musical ministries of Trinity were represented as we all came
together in the mall area in front of the cross with our blankets,
hot chocolate, and cookies.
