There are so many incredible things happening
at Trinity Baptist College right now! As an alumnus of this
institution you should be proud of the way that God continues to use
your college to make a difference in the lives of so many young men
and women that God sends our way.
As I have the privilege of interacting on a daily
basis with our students, I am reminded time and again of the potential
that we have here to literally impact the world for Christ. With
expanding degree programs and the introduction of new athletic teams,
we are seeing so many new students on campus. In fact, we had a record
freshman class enrollment last fall.
One of the courses I am teaching this semester is
called Social Ethics. In this class we examine how a Christian
worldview helps us to arrive at correct moral decisions on a wide
variety of cultural issues we are facing in our nation today,
including abortion, injustice, and same-sex marriage. This is really
the heartbeat of why our college exists. To help Christian young
people navigate through the complex maze of issues they face every
day. If we do not give them the tools and resources to build a strong
foundation in their lives now, they will have very little chance of
maturing and growing into the godly men and women our nation
desperately needs.
A highlight of this spring semester has been the
launch of a new young adult ministry at Trinity Baptist Church called,
Rooted. My long-time friend and mentor, Tommy Carr, is leading this
new ministry along with a team of other couples from the church.
There were 121 young people present at the first meeting. Our
students are going to benefit greatly from this ministry, and I am
looking forward to seeing what God will continue to do through Rooted
over the course of this year.
Another exciting opportunity for our students has
been the launch of small groups that certain faculty and staff members
are hosting in their homes on Sunday nights. Right now we have about 5
groups meeting, which represent approximately 50 students, and I hope
to continue building more. This is an incredible opportunity for
mentoring and discipleship to take place in a natural setting and our
students are thriving spiritually in this environment.
My wife and I are hosting one of the groups. We went through a
Bible study on prayer last semester by Mark Batterson. It was
incredible to see how God was working in our students and the prayers
that we saw answered during that time.
Please pray for Trinity Baptist College. We are
enjoying a great season of growth and spiritual renewal and our desire
is for this to continue. It is truly a work of God and we are blessed
to have the opportunity to influence and impact the lives of the next
generation of Christian leaders, teachers, pastors and influencers. We
are so thankful for all of our alumni scattered around the world; you
are definitely part of a great TBC family that continues to grow and
thrive.
Remember to always dream big because we serve a
big God.
